From edmyers at stanford.edu Thu Sep 1 15:17:32 2005 From: edmyers at stanford.edu (Ed Myers) Date: Thu, 01 Sep 2005 15:17:32 -0700 Subject: Power Supply Has Arrived Message-ID: <6.2.1.2.2.20050901151009.04f681b0@edmyers.pobox.stanford.edu> AFM2 Users, The white light power supply has arrived and I have hooked it up to the AFM. Please help in protecting the lifetime of the bulb and power supply by only turning up the light as high as you need. If you turn the power supply up all the way it generates a lot of heat and drastically shortens the bulb lifetime. The system will remain yellow lighted until we have our scanner head installed in the system. Regards, From mdeal at stanford.edu Mon Sep 26 08:32:40 2005 From: mdeal at stanford.edu (Michael Deal) Date: Mon, 26 Sep 2005 08:32:40 -0700 Subject: Request for AFM images Message-ID: <6.1.1.1.2.20050926080820.01eaf088@mdeal.pobox.stanford.edu> AFM users in SNF, As part of SNF's education program, we are doing a demo and workshop for some high school teachers about exploring the nano-world. This includes talking about and showing them (via a high resolution webcamera) the AFM in SNF. As part of this we would like to show them some AFM images taken by labmembers. So I'm asking if any of you can share some AFM images that you have taken in SNF that we could use in the demo/workshop being held in early November. We'd prefer if you could just send us (or otherwise get to us) the raw AFM images, since we will show them using the AFM software. Any image(s) are fine, and they can be of nanostructures, devices, different types of surfaces, high resolution features, comparisons between different structures, etc., and in general are examples of what the AFM is used for in the lab. If you wish, you can send me an email describing what kinds of images you have that we might want to show, and then we can make arrangements to get copies of the files. Thanks very much. This is very important for our program. -Mike Deal, SNF Director of Special Programs p.s. let me know if you are also interested in helping with the demo/workshop, held Nov. 8, 9. I will install it this afternoon and clear the yellow light. Please continue to take care of our scanner. I have also seen a lot of poor shut downs of the system. Many times I have found the monitors and light sources left on and more importantly the stage has not be moved to the Load Sample location. This makes it difficult for the next user. There has to be a Sum signal to move the stage. Once the tip has been removed there is no Sum signal. Please make sure you move the stage to the Load Sample location as part of the shut down. There are also numerous files in the default image capture file. This is not where you store your images. You must move them to your personal folder on the D drive. I will delete all files in the default folder. You have two weeks to either move your images out of the default folder or download them to another location. Regards,
