John and Mike,

I fixed a bug I introduced during the last round of changes.  The fix has 
been tested and installed and is running on rosen.  The bug left a few bad
records in current_lab which I have removed.  I also found and fixed a 
couple of minor problems in the event polling code related to error 
recovery.  (While I was in the client code, I commented out some unneccessary
debugging.)  

Now I'm moving on to the Postgres stuff.
