Great! In particular, we'd still like to see the log file from that session. Also, we've got a suspicion that while you can now login, make reservations, etc., that you are actually not getting properly notified of "events" initiated by other folks (such as reservations that they make, changes in shutdown status, etc.) While this may not be a great problem since, we suspect, most people login to remote coral (at which time you do get current status, reservations, etc.) make a reservation, check the status, and then log off. However, we would like to run a test with a remote user behind a firewall where we have you on the phone at the time that we make a reservation here and see if you actually get notified of that reservation. I noticed a couple of things. Java Web Start on my home machine did download the new version. However, the new version didn't work. I got the couldn't contact Admin Manager message. When I cleared the JWS cache, it downloaded the new version, and everything worked great. Maybe there's a problem with JWS? When one exits normally from a remote client, it attempts to unsubscribe. This isn't really a problem because the event server finds no subscriptions. At some point, I should probably change the code to skip the unsubscribe for remote clients. I'll start on the items we discussed first thing tomorrow. Message-ID: <3BBBACB4.B14BAD1A@snf.stanford.edu> Bill and Mike: I think that I've updated the repository so that there are "new and improved" makefiles in labnet/accounting/billing and in labnet/activity/billing that will check for a site-specific version and make the proper one. It also generates a log file for each generated procedure ... that date on that will determine whether it needs to be re-made next time. Also, these makefiles don't include the passwords for accmgr and actmgr. As a result if you type "make" it will type out what it is about to do ... but then you need to type in the appropriate password for each of the stored procedures that it is trying to process. Note: I've also added a bunch of COMMIT WORK statements to the nnun_summary_source.sql and equipment_summary_source.sql procedures. Hopefully, this will make things easier for everyone. Message-ID: <3BC87DA7.1EB9353B@snf.stanford.edu> Bill and Mike: I'm beginning to look at the matter of converting our database from Oracle to Postges. The website: http://techdocs.postgresql.org/ has a set of references related to converting about any database (including Oracle) into postres. Of of the links there is: http://www.samse.fr/GPL/ora2pg/ora2pg.html This describes a Perl module called Ora2Pg that seems to be able to covert an Oracle database schema into a Postgres verion. It can spit out a sql table to do this. While I suspect that we were originally thinking that we may simply take the *.sql files that generated our database ... it would appear that this may offer us the opportunity to use this tool to extract what we have in Oracle and re-create it (more or less) in Postgres. At the above website, their first example of this is: BEGIN { $ENV{ORACLE_HOME} = '/usr/local/oracle/oracle816'; } use strict; use Ora2Pg; # Init the database connection my $dbsrc = 'dbi:Oracle:host=testdb.samse.fr;sid=TEST;port=1521'; my $dbuser = 'system'; my $dbpwd = 'manager'; # Create an instance of the Ora2Pg perl module my $schema = new Ora2Pg ( datasource => $dbsrc, # Database DBD datasource user => $dbuser, # Database user password => $dbpwd, # Database password ); # Create the POSTGRESQL representation of all objects in the database $schema->export_schema("output.sql"); exit(0); It appears that they can extract just about everything: table extraction ... the structure of the table, data extraction functions and procedures .. grant information. If I can get postgres ready to run on my linux box, this might be a good place to test some of this stuff .... Talk to you later, John From shott at snf.stanford.edu Wed Oct 17 17:52:28 2001 From: shott at snf.stanford.edu (John Shott) Date: Wed, 17 Oct 2001 17:52:28 -0700 Subject: Fix for "fat" JTextFields in resource client. Message-ID: <3BCE27CC.AB41B9BA@snf.stanford.edu> Bill and Mike: I've made some modifications that, I think, eleminate the problem of the "bloated" JTextFields that show up on the edit/add windows of the member, project, and account stuff (particularly the project and account that only have 4-6 lines of text that fit into that fairly tall window. All changes are confined to the resource client ... specifically the files named ResourcePanel.java and FormPanel.java. I have checked them into CVS, so please update your working files. Basically, the "2xn" GridLayout expands to fill the window ... if nothing else is done. So, I added that GridLayout to a vertical BoxLayout that contains the GridLayout and some glue. Finally, I told it that the GridLayout can't be any bigger than its preferredSize ... in other words, it's not allowed to stretch vertically. While this may not be the perfect solution, it, hopefully, eliminates the funny-looing white spaces.
