From jrgdavid at stanford.edu Thu Mar 3 17:14:53 2011 From: jrgdavid at stanford.edu (Rakesh) Date: Thu, 3 Mar 2011 17:14:53 -0800 Subject: Cryostation - Proper usage requirements. Message-ID: <21BC82EB-6492-4E22-A0F9-6EB2A5BCD246@stanford.edu> To all the Cryostation Users in CIS 152: Since Arash graduated recently, Myself (Rakesh) and Arunanshu will be the administrators/trainers for the Cryostation from now on. There are a few things that we think would help us to maintain the station properly to avoid a number of issues that has occurred in the past. TIPS: Recently I found that some user had damaged three of the four tips. One of them was completely broken and the other two bent very badly. I have managed to recycle 2 of the old tips and replaced them. So currently Tip no 1, 2 and 4 are usable. Tip no 3 seems to be open. I will try to see what the issue is in the next week or so. Meanwhile I request the users to be very careful while handling the tips as they are very expensive. If you happen to break a tip, please let me or Arunanshu know about it otherwise we might have to disqualify such users. LOG BOOK: It is very important to know who the last user was and the status of the system including (temperature cooled to, whether you have changed Liq N2, chamber pressure before, during and after measurements, etc...) So please make sure you record these information in the log book that is placed next to the laptop there. If you find any strange behavior in the system or even if something goes wrong please report them in the log book or mail to the user list. There is no way of checking if you do not make an entry in the log book. Hope every user can respect the Honor Code. RESERVATION: The cryostation is on the Coral system. The station is kept ON permanently. DO NOT disable it. However it is important to know if you will be using the station or not. So please reserve the cryostation ahead of time on the Coral if you are planning to use it. This will also help us to keep track of the usage. I highly recommend all the users to follow the above procedures so that we all can benefit from the system. I will soon send out an operating procedure in case if you have any doubts. There will also be a copy near the station. The people who manage the station are your fellow students. Just like you, they have classes to take, homework to do, and research to complete. Please be considerate and follow procedure and don't just walk away when there is a problem with the tool. Put your heads together and solve the problem. > Philip > > H.-S.
