Shutdown ellipsomter: program crashed, could not reboot systemf

The program hung up.  I tried to power the computer down
and reboot with the BASIC disk.  There was a read error
on the disk.  I powered down and tried the other BASIC
disk.  There was also a read error on that disk.  I repeated
the power cycle with each disk to no avail.
