seeking advices on covering narrow trenches

Dear Labmembers,

I'm wondering if anyone has experience with covering narrow trenches  
that are 2-3um wide and a few millimeters long with a layer of  
protective material.  My device will operate in water, and I need to  
protect these trenches so that no water or the protective material can  
get into them.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions.
