They said that the turbo pump that we sent them is unrepairable. They do however have a direct replacement pump in stock. They will send me a quote tomorrow. From eenriquez at snf.stanford.edu Tue Jun 20 16:02:52 2006 From: eenriquez at snf.stanford.edu (Elmer Enriquez) Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2006 16:02:52 -0700 Subject: Lampoly update Message-ID: <44987E9C.5040303@snf.stanford.edu> I have received two quotes for the Seiko-Seiki turbo pump for about $23,000 and they have the pump in stock. However; according to the pump rebuilder (Provac), the turbo that the Lam etcher is using has a levitator reliability problem. They said that in the event of a turbo crash, the levitor assembly is susceptible to heavy damage which can renders it unrepairable. As a result, we are looking into the possiblity of using a different, more reliable pump. We are trying to expedite this process but the main issue that needs to be resolved is the interfacing between the turbo controller and the Lam system. Alcatel has a turbo pump with an interface convertion kit. I will try to get more information on this tomorrow. We believe that we have figured out how to interface the turbo's controller with the Lam. There are however; hardware issues involved with physically mounting it on the system. But right now there are no show stoppers. We should be ready to test it by noon on Friday. Currently in the process of reconnecting the water lines, the foreline and the purge line. Still need to install the controller . The Bad news: The system was powered down last night because of a significant water leak coming from area around the RF matching network. I will evaluate the damage next week. It has taken longer than anticipated because the turbo support brackets had to be redesigned and new purge lines had to be welded. Installation should be completed by Friday. I will then repair the water leak and then power up the system on Monday 7/3.
