From mtang at snf.stanford.edu Tue Jul 1 09:27:57 2003 From: mtang at snf.stanford.edu (Mary Tang) Date: Tue, 01 Jul 2003 09:27:57 -0700 Subject: Equipment policy? Message-ID: <3F01B68D.3C80926C@snf.stanford.edu> Hi all -- There have been several questions recently about enabling equipment... First, it seems that there are four kinds of equipment (with regard to Coral) in the lab, would you agree: 1. Equipment that is single-user, and must be enabled to be used (most equipment in the lab.) 2. Equipment that is not on Coral (microscopes, mainly... anything else?) 3. Equipment that is on Coral (primarily for problem reporting purposes) but does not require enabling to be used (dektaks, nanospecs, what else?) 4. Equipment that is on Coral but is multi-user -- that is, only one person can enable at a time, but multiple people can use it at the same time (wet benches, svg tracks.) Second, with regard to multiuser equipment -- it seems that, as a courtesy, whoever wants to share the equipment should check with the person who has enabled it (since it's that person's dollar and his/her responsibility if a problem is to be reported -- and also to ensure everyone knows what's going on with, say, acid changes.) Also, if the person who has enabled is done, then whomever is sharing should enable over the first person. How's that sound? (If there are no objections, I'll add it to the intro/policy manual.) How's next Wednesday, July 23, at noon? Pizza as usual? How's this for an agenda: 1. Semicon update. Process staffers who attended Semicon should be prepared to give a 5-10 minute update to the rest of us on what you learned. 2. Training tools (videos, operating procedures, etc.) 3. SpecMat. What info do y'all need? How can we restructure this to provide us with up-to-date info? 4. Personal computers. What our standard configuration should be. What do we really need for our work. (If we can standardize, maintaining them should be easier.) Let me know if there any any unavoidable schedule conflicts... M -- Mary X. (http://www.quantuminsight.com/_MSB/) Anu Tewary (a labmember and student) is one of the organizers for this forum, which happens monthly. She asked if we could host tours of the lab, and I said "fine, in groups of no more than 8 and no more than 3 groups." As it turns out, 24 people have already signed up! I can do the a couple of the tours, but probably won't manage them back-to-back. And hey, it's worth going to the Nanotech forum, if only for the food... Let me know -- Thanks, Mary -- Mary X.
