From rcrane at stanford.edu Thu Feb 2 13:42:19 2006 From: rcrane at stanford.edu (Dick Crane) Date: Thu, 02 Feb 2006 13:42:19 -0800 Subject: Staff changes Message-ID: <43E27CBB.5080300@stanford.edu> Dear litho users, We want to let you know that Mike Martinez has resigned, effective Wednesday, February 1. As many of you may already know, Mike has been planning to leave for some time now, in order to spend more time to develop his videography business. Opportunities and circumstances have worked together such that he is leaving a few months earlier than anticipated. Unfortunately, Mike?s mother suffered a fall and he is taking time to be with her this week. We had hoped to offer him a proper ?farewell?, but it appears he won?t be able to leave her soon. Please join me in wishing the best to Mike and good wishes in his venture. I am sure Mike would want to let everyone know that he has appreciated his time here and that if anyone has a need for videographer services (weddings, bar mitzvahs, birthday, etc.), that his company is ready and available. Please also bear with us as we attempt to cover the lithography area in Mike?s absence. Mario is holding up magnificently, but he is still the sole maintenance staff in this area. (Please do be conscientious in your use of equipment and clean up after yourself.) And if you happen to know of anyone with experience in equipment engineering in the photolithography area, ideally with an emphasis on electronics, please do send them our way (a job posting is due out very soon!) Message-ID: <43F139D2.6010408@stanford.edu> Hey! Who put resist-contaminated Q-tips in the regular trash this weekend? Do you realize what chemicals are in the resists? Haven't you read the MSDS for the resists in the lab? Don't you know that: 1. Most resists are based on ethyl lactate as solvent? Although this is considered in the industry to be a "safe" solvent, it's only because the previous ones were nastier. The PEL (Permissable Exposure Limit) for ethyl lactate is actually the same (5 ppm over an 8 hour period) as that of chlorobenzene and the glycol ethers -- the "not-safe" solvents (and do you know why?) 2. How to get rid of resist-contaminated waste? It should be placed in air-tight bags and then placed in the designated resist and solvent waste container. Leaving them in the regular trash means that everyone in the lab has to breath the vapors -- and since cleanroom air is mostly recycled, we are all breathing it and rebreathing it for a loooong time. Now, STOP IT!!! Mad-eye Mary -- Mary X. Now I like to complain, Please STOP bringing/ mixing dummy wafers with resist in to SVGDEV box. I am hoping that this will eliminate all the resist on the developer chucks and hot plates. Message-ID: <43F4F9DA.6070303@stanford.edu> WHO USED BLACK GUNK ON SVGCOAT TRACK 2???!!!? It's EVERYWHERE! In the catchcup, in the vacuum lines, and in the spindle motor assembly! What IS it??!?? And because Mahnaz is out sick today, I will take this opportunity to restate the obvious: Only standard resists and approved chemicals which are compatible with resist-cleaning chemicals are allowed for manual dispense on the SVG tracks. (This black stuff is obviously NOT one of them!) There's a reason for this rule, and this incident is a good illustration: 1. It looks like Mario is going to have to replace the spindle motor. It's $3K for a new motor. 2. This is taking up a lot of Mario's time to repair, which means other stuff in litho is not being addressed. 3. We're down to just one track, until this is repaired. 4. A labmember's wafer was ruined, because coat track #2 wasn't working properly (and yes, he ran test wafers without problems -- it looks like it took a little while for the spindle to freeze up.) So: Whoever did this, DON'T DO IT AGAIN! And if you are willing to be an adult and take responsibility for this, an apology to Mario would certainly be a good place to start. And, you should let us know what it this stuff is, if only because we still need to find a way to get rid of it. Grrrr!! M -- Mary X. I feel sad particularly for all the good people who follow the rules and respect it and disappointed and upset as I can not find the person who ran those stuff. As of right now, I do not have the luxury of having a back up spindle, the one we took out of the track is not reparable and very very contaminated. So Here is my message to the person who did this, if you have a process and not sure what To do, come and talk to me. You will be surprise I always find a way.
