From mtang at snf.stanford.edu Wed Mar 5 18:58:45 2003 From: mtang at snf.stanford.edu (Mary Tang) Date: Wed, 05 Mar 2003 18:58:45 -0800 Subject: Wafersaw Blades Message-ID: <3E66B965.8E06618B@snf.stanford.edu> Hi Wafersaw users: Just so you know -- an update on wafersaw blades: 1. Blades must now be checked out using the "Red Book" in the Stockroom -- the one where you check out wafers, teflon tweezers, and AFM tips. 2. Just a reminder that S-type blades (S3030, namely) are used to give smooth edge cuts in silicon -- they are not strong enough, however, to cut glass. Please don't use these to cut glass -- you'll go through lots of blades and these are ~$50/each. 3. Likewise, C-type blades (namely C3060, although we sometimes have C3030) can be used to cut glass and quartz even (although they don't last very long for quartz and harder substrates.) They can also be used for silicon, but give a rougher edge than the S-type blades. 4. Thanks to much research by Don Arnold, we have new diamond-imbedded resin blades now in the stockroom. These are to be used for hard substrates, like quartz, sapphire, and lithium niobate. These need to be manually mounted in a flange hub in order to be used. Please see SNF staff if you are interested in learning how to assemble and use these blades. Thanks for your attention! Mary -- Mary X. The saw should be available again for regular use after lunchtime.
