Then it stopped. It souded like the exhaust pump (if there is one) was really straining. No fumes escaped from the hood, as there was still exhaust being pulled. During the 5 min I checked the wbgaas bench, and it was quiet, I went to check the silicide bench, and it was quiet. When I returned to the wbgen, the noise was dying down and then was quiet again. What the heck??? Everything was fine. The exhaust system has two large blowers (25,000 cfm each) and two fume scrubbers located in the basement. We have had noisy failures before, but were not able to hear them outside the basement. It is possible for foreign objects (wipes) to get sucked in to the exhaust duct and make a big noise. Or I suspect you may have been hearing some other equipment perhaps through the exhaust duct (vac pump exhaust?). Thanks noting the event for us, Dick lindaw at snf.stanford.edu wrote: >The bench exhaust started making a very loud cyclic whinning noise for about 5 min this morning. Then it stopped.
