another user (arion) reported seeing a blue paper sheet slide from the bench top onto the hot plate. we looked for it together but couldn't see it, and didn't want to move the hot plate too much. risk of sparking seems small (sheet was dry, temps < 100C) and the hot plate is still running without incident.
